Who We Are & What We Do
Esencia Yoga Spa, a Registered Yoga Alliance School, was born out of the passion to share wellness. We believe in the integration of your physical, mental and spiritual health to help you achieve the optimal state of well-being and balance. This is how we created your yoga classes and spa treatments.
San Miguel de Allende’s premier yoga and spa center, we are an oasis for relaxation and rejuvenation. The center is a place to play, explore, discover and find your balance. We are a warm environment (often literally!) and feature a variety of daily classes, male and female changing rooms with showers, a fresh juice bar and a spacious classroom where you will find a wealth of new friends and self-awareness.
Compassion for others and love of one’s self — wherever we may be — is what defines our “Esencia." Esencia Yoga Spa was created for you and by you....
HOt HATHA FLOW
Led by Esencia’s Director and Primary Instructor, Melinda Marino, our Hot Yoga with Heart class is unlike any other in San Miguel de Allende. Based upon Bikram Choudhury’s famous system and The Barkan Method, our class is derived from traditional Hatha Yoga and incorporates the practice of asanas, pranayama breathing and meditation. The room is kept at approximately 36º C/ 98º F in order to prepare your joints and muscles for the ultimate physical/spiritual experience. Our hot classes will help you improve strength levels, enhance flexibility, release internal toxins, clear the mind and warm the heart. Whether you are an absolute beginner or experienced yogi, your mind, body and soul will benefit from regularly practicing with us.
Taking the basic principle of “Vinyasa” (Synchronization of breath and movement) from Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, is a modern style of yoga that emphasizes the rhythmic and coordinated transition from one posture to the next. This dynamic style of yoga aims mainly to increase lung capacity through breath regulation and to strengthen the physical body. At the same time, Vinyasa Yoga is surprisingly soothing and restorative for many kinds of physical conditions. By working externally on the physical body as one whole unit, as opposed to segmenting each part, we can begin to start tapping into the subtle (pranic) body to balance the energetic flow.
Esencia’s Fundamentals class is for anyone new to yoga, those more experienced students wishing to reinforce the foundations of their practice and yogis looking to rehabilitate from injury. We explore the sequence at a slower pace than our Hatha flow class, placing emphasis on learning the correct alignment for each posture and building strength and flexibility. The Fundamentals class is set at room temperature.
Esencia's primary instructor is Yoga Alliance Certified to teach Yoga Trapeze. A suspension yoga system great for back pain, core strength, functional upper body strength, and balance. Most of the yoga clients are looking to relieve back pain, relieve stress, improve their grip and core strength.
Melinda is the Director of Esencia Yoga Spa and serves as the Primary Instructor. Melinda began her path over 20 years ago when as an Aikido martial artist, she sustained several injuries and discovered yoga as a form of rehabilitation. Little did she know, it was the beginning of an expansive journey of the mind, body and soul. Since then, she has been certified and/or trained with Amrit Desai, Bikram Choudhury, Jimmy Barkan and Dr. Omanand Guruji (advanced yoga therapy) and Lucas Rockwood Yoga Trapeze. Yoga Alliance certified at E-RYT500 level and Yoga Trapeze Yoga Alliance Certified. Incorporating many types of yoga paths into her asana practice including The Barkan Method, Vinyasa, Hot, Anusara and Ashtanga, her biggest influence is her students, who inspire her daily to continue growing and learning as a teacher, practitioner and celebrant of life.
